Job Purpose: Support the Tutoring and Learning Center (TLC) in transitioning to a scalable academic support model that aligns with the needs of adult learners in a competency-based education environment. Contribute to the development of academic support frameworks, digital learning tools, asynchronous materials, and facilitation strategies that can be implemented by staff to promote student autonomy, persistence, and skill development.
Location and Hours: Remote, various locations throughout California, 20 hours per week.

Position Overview
The Tutoring Learning Specialist will support Calbright College’s Tutoring and Learning Center by enhancing tutoring programs. This role focuses on developing a consistent tutoring methodology, training peer tutors, creating facilitation resources, refining outreach processes, and providing recommendations for ongoing program improvement. The Tutoring Learning Specialist will work remotely and collaborate with faculty, persistence teams, and academic support staff.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
The duties below are representative of the role and are not intended to cover all duties performed within the scope of work.
- Lead the development of an academic tutoring framework that includes one-on-one, drop-in, asynchronous, and workshop-based formats within a fully online environment.
- Participate in campus-wide AI tool discussions to assess relevance for tutoring services, ensuring alignment with adult learners and competency-based education goals.
- Identify and propose AI tools that support autonomous learning and scale tutoring services without requiring constant staff presence.
- Prototype selected AI tools in tutoring contexts, gather informal student and staff feedback, and assess feasibility for broader implementation.
- Collaborate with Learning & Innovation and instructional faculty to assess interactive technologies that support student autonomy, engagement, and academic skill development.
- Identify and recommend interactive tools that align with the tutoring framework and are suitable for self-paced, workshop, or tutor-led formats.
- Design or prototype interactive learning activities for use in both student-facing and staff-facilitated settings.
- Develop a sustainable evaluation and training process that equips Tutoring and Learning Center staff to assess tutoring effectiveness, integrate feedback, and align services with learner success goals.
- Create adaptable student- and staff-facing guides, templates, and walkthroughs that support consistent implementation of tutoring tools, strategies, and technologies.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Deep understanding of adult learning theory and competency-based education.
- Knowledge of AI applications in education and demonstrated experience using AI tools to enhance academic support services.
- Experience developing training programs and interactive facilitation resources.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills across cross-functional teams.
- Ability to design and execute quality assurance processes for academic support services.
- Demonstrate understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, staff and faculty.
- Requires the ability to be flexible and adaptable in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently and remotely with minimal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Technology, or a related field.
- Experience with learning theory and/or tutoring models.
- Experience developing supplemental learning resources in online applications.
- Experience developing presentations, workshops, or asynchronous learning materials.
- Familiarity with online learning platforms and applications.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with curriculum development and curriculum mapping.
- Instructional experience in online or hybrid environments.
- Experience in training student support staff.
- Knowledge of California Community Colleges.
- Experience working with advisory groups or cross-functional teams.

Working Conditions and Travel
- Calbright College is a statewide online college where all instruction and support are done via various online technologies both in person and remotely. Calbright College has administrative offices in Sacramento available for use. When working remotely, employees should be able and willing to use digital communication tools as used by the college, and have the ability to work on a computer for extended periods of time.

- Requires the ability to function in a remote online instructional environment performing work of primarily a sedentary nature. Requires the ability to use hearing and speech to make presentations to groups and carry on conversations over the phone and in-person. Requires speaking skills to communicate with staff and students in one-on-one and small group settings, on the phone, and to distinguish sound prompts from various types of equipment. Requires near visual acuity to read printed materials and computer screens. Requires sufficient hand/arm/finger dexterity to retrieve work materials, operate a personal computer keyboard, and operate standard office equipment. Requires the ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
