Research Shows Completing Calbright’s Program Has A Measurable Impact On Students’ Lives

The research is clear: A college education in general provides a significant career boost. But Calibright is not a “general” college, it’s a unique and innovative college that re-imagines higher education for adults. Entirely online, it is focused, flexible, and designed to be responsive to the needs of parents, people managing multiple jobs, pivoting careers, and working-age adults with limited time.

Does an education and job skills experience like Calbright’s model improve the lives of its graduates? For years, Calbright’s students have been saying they are overwhelmingly satisfied with the education they get, and that they recommend Calbright to friends. Additionally, a vast majority say Calbright helps them achieve their education and career goals. But can the benefits be shown in career outcomes and better lives?

A new analysis finds the answer is categorically “Yes”: The average Calbright completer is better off, by several measurements, a year later.

This is confirmed thanks to meticulous data matching work of Calbright’s own Research & Development team and a new partnership with CredLens,a nonprofit national data trust, affiliated with Strada Education Foundation, that collects, manages, and analyzes data on non-degree credentials in the U.S.

According to preliminary results compiled by several years of program evaluations, ongoing student satisfaction surveys, a 2025 alumni impact study by Calbright’s R&D team, and CredLens:

  • More than 80% of Calbright completers are employed a year after graduation.
  • The median Calbright graduate makes over $8,000 more annually than they did before enrolling – roughly the amount of a health care premium.

That’s a substantial, measurable, impact – especially for free programs that can take less than a year to complete. It proves that Calbright’s model, carefully designed to meet labor market needs for upwardly mobile jobs, works for its students.

You can read CredLens’ report on Calbright graduate outcomes below.

But an education can mean more than a nuts-and-bolts impact: It can improve quality of life in ways that go beyond dollars and cents. Many Calbright students enroll with the goal of starting in a new field, or getting a more stable or flexible job. Many Calbright students say their programs gave them more confidence and resilience. Calbright’s research efforts attempt to measure these additional benefits too. According to survey respondents:

  • 66.6% of graduates say they gained an in-depth knowledge of their field
  • 66.38% of graduates say they can find, evaluate and use information effectively
  • 64.60% say they developed better work or career skills
  • 61.94% say they learned to think critically

There’s more measurement to do. These results are “Phase 1” of a research initiative to measure, track, and analyze outcomes for Calbright students and graduates.

“These results represent just the first phase of our commitment to transparency and student success,” said Binh Do, Calbright’s Vice President of Research and Development. “While it’s incredibly rewarding to see positive initial results, our research initiative is an ongoing process. We are already developing Phase 2 to further refine this data and ensure Calbright continues to be responsive to our mission of enhancing economic mobility and serving the evolving needs of adult learners.”

Measuring impact is an ongoing process – one that will never stop. But these initial results are a compelling demonstration that Calbright students benefit significantly from Calbright’s innovative model of adult higher education. It is possible to take a focused, online, self-paced, course of study that measurably improves its graduates’ lives in less than a year.
