Virtual Library

Virtual Library and OER Model

The Virtual Library provides comprehensive research and academic support through EBSCOhost, offering access to hundreds of peer-reviewed journals and scholarly publications.

Students can find detailed guidance on research methodologies, proper citation formats, and best practices for academic writing.

The portal also includes current resources on effectively using AI tools in educational and professional contexts, helping students develop digital literacy skills essential for today’s academic and workplace environments.

Open Educational Resources (OER) represent a revolutionary approach to democratizing higher education by providing freely accessible, high-quality learning materials.

These resources, often licensed under Creative Commons or Public Domain, embody our mission of increasing economic mobility and closing equity gaps for working adults traditionally excluded from higher education.

By supporting OER, we challenge traditional educational barriers and provide flexible, skills-based online programs that deliver tangible economic value.

The open licensing of these resources—ranging from completely open to selectively restricted—ensures that knowledge becomes a universal tool for personal and professional advancement.

Our commitment extends beyond access; we’re creating pathways for working adults to gain critical skills, empowering communities through unrestricted learning. OER represents more than free materials—it’s a transformative movement breaking down systemic educational inequities. We are proud to join institutions at the forefront of this movement include MIT OpenCourseWare, OpenStax, and LibreTexts, by providing highly credible, peer-reviewed resources in our programs.

Initiatives

Learning Opportunities

Knowledge is a powerful catalyst for personal and collective transformation. Each month, Library Services offers opportunities for students to connect with their communities.

By dedicating focused attention to diverse topics on a monthly basis, we aim to create opportunities for learning that extend beyond traditional academic boundaries, empowering students and faculty to explore, reflect, and contribute to positive social change.

Our commitment is rooted in a vision of education that not only disseminates information but also nurtures compassionate, informed individuals who are equipped to address complex challenges and build a more inclusive, supportive society. Examples of Calbright’s Topics of the Month include Women’s History Month, Poverty in America, Mental Health Awareness, and more.
